I decided to start this petition after my son 2 years old got diagnosed with epilepsy and started to have nocturnal seizures… 1st december 2016 is when it all began with his first seizure a 4 hour status seizure which resulted in him having to be placed into a coma on life support for 2 weeks.
People fail to realise the severity of epilepsy shrugging it off at just a fit or telling you that because it doesn’t happen every day they’re ok, well let me tell you they’re not!
Every night I lay awake watching, waiting for my son to have a seizure because if i dont catch his seizure within 5 minutes and administer his emergency medication he may never wake up again it is really as black and white as that.
Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) is when a person with epilepsy dies suddenly and prematurely and no other cause of death is found.
Around 1200 people die from Epilepsy each year in the UK. Around half of these deaths are SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy).
If you have seizures during the night, having a seizure alarm that alerts someone if you have a seizure, is a life changer. This means that help can be called to check on you at night and administer those emergency medications that are needed in time or to seek emergency medical attention.
As a single parent with a child who has epilepsy it angers me that it can be so difficult for some people to access seizure alarms… help save a life by signing this petition… let’s get the severity of epilepsy noticed and make a change!
